“We Support Our Schools” December 2022
A2Z Personnel and The Drive 107.9 are happy to award Ayse Haxton with the We Support Our Schools grant for December of 2022! Mrs. Haxton is a teacher at Stevensville High School.
Mrs. Haxton is a 9th-grade English teacher but also teaches a “Cultural Storytelling” elective. Students explore similarities and differences in the ways, people, from a variety of cultures around the world share stories, with a focus on oral storytelling traditions. Students read many different types of stories ranging from myths, legends, fairy and folk tales, fables, and epic poetry.
The Storytelling Fair is the final project for students. Students prepare a retelling of a cultural story for elementary students at Stevensville. They spend weeks making puppets, and other props to make their projects come to life. Mrs. Haxton plans to purchase supplies for her students’ final projects.
Mrs. Haxton also plans to purchase her students’ new books for the classroom.
We would like to thank Ayse and all the teachers who connect creativity with learning, in addition to learning about different cultural perspectives.
