Responsibilities: 

  • Assist with the preparation and layout of materials for carpentry projects.
  • Help with the construction and installation of framing, drywall, windows, doors, cabinetry, trim, and other wood-based structures.
  • Learn and perform basic carpentry tasks under the guidance of experienced carpenters, such as cutting, measuring, sanding, and assembling.
  • Operate hand tools and power tools, learning the safe and proper techniques for use.
  • Perform demolition and site preparation work as directed by Lead Carpenters or Project Managers.
  • Work with materials such as lumber, plywood, drywall, and other building components.
  • Learn how to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and technical drawings.
  • Assist in the setup and breakdown of tools, equipment, and scaffolding.
  • Help maintain a clean and organized job site, ensuring all tools and materials are stored properly.
  • Ensure that safety protocols are followed at all times, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and following OSHA guidelines.
  • Participate in lifting, carrying, and moving materials and tools to different areas of the job site.
  • Help with measuring, cutting, and assembling wood pieces and other materials for installation.
  • Work closely with other apprentices, journeyman carpenters, and project managers to ensure efficient and high-quality work.
  • Attend and participate in safety meetings, training sessions, and other team-building activities.
  • Ask questions and seek feedback from experienced carpenters to improve skills and knowledge.
  • Develop professional communication skills, including reporting issues or questions to supervisors.

Requirements: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Strong interest in learning the carpentry trade and building a career in construction
  • Ability to follow directions and work effectively in a team environment
  • Basic math skills (including the ability to measure accurately)
  • Physical ability to lift and carry heavy materials (up to 50 lbs) and perform manual labor
  • Basic knowledge of hand tools and power tools is a plus, but not required
  • Strong attention to detail, reliability, and a strong work ethic
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Some prior experience in construction or carpentry (e.g., summer jobs, internships, or coursework)
  • Familiarity with safety protocols and basic job site practices
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with a diverse team
  • Ability to understand and follow blueprints or construction plans
  • Basic knowledge of wood types, materials, and finishes
  • Pre-employment drug screen and background check required upon offer of employment
